Candle Care Guide
Getting the Most From Your Ember Echoes Candle
Every Ember Echoes candle is hand-poured in Australia using 100% premium soy wax. With a little care, your candle will burn cleanly, evenly, and fill your space with fragrance for hours. Here’s everything you need to know.
The First Burn Is the Most Important
When you light your candle for the first time, let the wax melt all the way across the surface before blowing it out. This usually takes 3–4 hours, depending on the size. If you extinguish it too early, the wax “remembers” where it stopped and tunnels down the centre on future burns, wasting wax and fragrance.
Trim the Wick Before Every Light
Trim the wick to about 5mm before each burn. A trimmed wick gives you a cleaner flame, less soot on the glass, and a more even burn. You can use scissors, nail clippers, or a wick trimmer — whatever’s handy.
Burn Time
For the best results, burn your candle for 2–4 hours at a time. Burning for longer than 4 hours can cause the wick to “mushroom” (form a carbon ball at the tip), which leads to a larger flame, soot, and uneven burning.
Putting It Out
We recommend using a candle snuffer or gently dipping the wick into the wax pool and straightening it again. This avoids the smoke and wax splatter you get from blowing it out. If you don’t have a snuffer, a gentle blow works — just be careful of hot wax.
Where to Place Your Candle
Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, curtains, and anything flammable. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Never move a candle while it’s lit or while the wax is still liquid.
Storing Your Candle
When you’re not burning your candle, pop the wooden lid back on. This keeps dust out and helps preserve the fragrance. Store it in a cool spot away from direct sunlight — soy wax can soften or discolour in heat.
Safety Reminders
-
Never leave a burning candle unattended
-
Keep away from children, pets, and flammable materials
-
Stop burning when 10mm of wax remains at the bottom
-
Don’t burn for more than 4 hours at a time
-
Always burn on a heat-resistant surface
After the Candle Is Finished
Once your candle has burned down, the glass jar and wooden lid make a lovely reusable container. Clean out any remaining wax with warm soapy water, and use it for storing small items, holding pens, or as a planter for succulents. Your personalised design stays on the glass as a keepsake.
